Hi guys, so on Indulging Food we took Baumkuchen (German Tree Cake) abit up the notch by adding raspberry jam on EACH AND EVERY LAYER of the cake!Too bad, didn't get to count how many layers were there, let us know in the comments below how many layers you ended up having!

Also, we tried raspberry, you can try whatever jam you like it will still turn out OUTSTANDING! This is our take on a Baumkuchen, what's yours?

Serves: 8

Ingredients:-

250g Unsalted Butter
6 Eggs
1 cup Plain Flour
3/4 cup + 2tbsp Corn Flour
1 tbsp Baking Powder
1 cup Sugar
3 tbsp Orange Juice
1/2 tsp Orange Zest
4 to 6 drops Sweet Orange Aromatic Oil
1 cup Heavy Cream
150g Dark Chocolate

Extra Ingredients:-

Raspberry Jam
Almonds
Melted White Chocolate

Method:-

Step 1:- To make brown butter, melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Keep stirring in between especially when the butter is bubbling so as to avoid the butter to stick to the pan. Continue letting it bubble until it turns brown. Once done, put it aside to cool before adding to the eggs.

Step 2:- Seperate the eggs and whip them with 1/2 cup of sugar. Egg whites should make stiff peaks whereas the egg yolks should be triple in size.

Step 3:- Add brown butter in slow steady streams to the egg yolks mixture. Add the orange zest and orange juice and mix.

Step 4:- Now sift the dry ingredients to the egg yolks and mix slowly by folding to incorporate all the dry ingredients. In 3 to 4 batches add the egg whites to the mixture by folding it as well. Add the orange aromatic oil and mix.

Step 5:- In a well greased and lined 9 inch loose base baking pan, add 1/4 cup of the prepared batter and spread evenly by tilting. Broil/Grill in a preheated oven at 250°C for 1:40 to 2 minutes. Spread raspberry jam onto this layer. Again add 1/4 cup of batter over the jam, spread evenly and broil/grill again for the same amount of time. Continue with the remaining batter. Once done, let the Baumkuchen cool for 10 minutes. Now, remove it from the cake tin and cool completely.

Step 6:- Microwave 1 cup heavy cream, add chocolate and mix till its all
melted and a pour able consistency is formed. Pour this mixture on to the cake covering it all sides. Garnish with drizzled white chocolate and almonds. Best eaten within 1 to 2 days. Enjoy !
