In this example problem, we start with a 3rd degree polynomial function and want to find its critical points. To do so, we find the 1st derivative and set it equal to zero. We find the critical numbers (values) by factoring and determining when each factor will equal zero. We then evaluate the critical numbers (values) in the original function to get their associated y-values to make them into critical points.
