By looking at the A. E. Seaman Mineral Museum as a combination of great people and wonderful things in a unique place, Dr. Jaszczak will briefly review the rich history of the museum, highlight some of what they are doing now, and give a hint of what they hope to see in the future. Dr. John Jaszczak joined Michigan Tech in 1991 as a Professor of Physics and has been the Director and John and Phyllis Seaman Endowed Curator of the A. E. Seaman Mineral Museum since 2020.
The Carnegie Museum of the Keweenaw's Natural History Seminar Series 2024 - "Rocks & Minerals of the Western UP -- Why We Love Them!" aims to build interest in the appreciation of local rocks and minerals through a series of discussions led by local rock and mineral leaders. Meant for a broad audience, the discussions are hoped to lure people outside to look at rocks and minerals, and to think about them in a modern context. The seminars are held in the Carnegie Museum of the Keweenaw's Community Room in Houghton, Michigan.
Other videos in this series include "Omars & Yooperlites - tracers of glacial paths," by Bill Rose (January 2024); "Minerals & Mines in Michigan's Copper Country" by George Schriver (April 2024); "Early use of Copper in the Lake Superior Region" by Bob Wheeler (April 2024), and "Quincy Mine: The Place, The Problems, The Project!" by Tom Wright, Quincy Mine (May 2024).
