Women in leadership have always faced barriers—both internal and external—but history shows us that those who step up make a difference. Whether in your home, community, faith group, or workplace, leadership starts with saying, "I care."

Patricia Morgan refers to the 2021 Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt Diversity Report that revealed women held less than 24% of board seats in Canada’s top 500 companies—despite making up over half the population and driving most consumer purchases. The challenge is real, but so is our power. As bell hooks said, "Sometimes people try to destroy you precisely because they recognize your power."

From fear of rejection to people-pleasing, from lack of childcare to systemic biases like sexism, ageism, and racism—barriers exist. But when we know our why, understand our values, know our strengths, and lean on mentors, we can rise. If not you, then who?
