I dropped our GoPro into the ocean on a private snorkel tour at the secret gillis.

We booked a private snorkel tour around the Gili islands… and it turned into one of the most unexpected days of our trip.

Our first stop was Gili Nanggu, where we were charged a “clean-up fee” (still not convinced it was legit), and then handed a bottle of bread to feed the fish. I wasn’t totally sure how ethical it was… but the fish loved it and swarmed us the moment we hit the water.

From there we headed to the second island, but the reef was pretty much dead and the snorkelling conditions weren’t great — so we ate lunch instead and moved on to our final stop. And that’s where things got chaotic.

While trying to take a shocked thumbnail photo with the Insta360, Jesse passed me the GoPro and I tucked it into the front of my bikini. As we posed, the GoPro slipped straight out and dropped 5 metres down to the sea floor. If I didn’t dive for it immediately… it would’ve been gone forever. So I swam down, grabbed it, and somehow rescued our whole video.

After that little adrenaline spike, we called it a day. Our “6-hour” tour ended up being just 4 — which was lucky, because the minute we got back to the hotel a storm rolled in.
