Exploring Lombok by Scooter: Hidden Bat cave on our way to Kuta

Join us on our Lombok scooter adventure as we ride from the south coast towards Kuta Lombok, exploring rocky roads, local villages, hidden spots, and some of the best ocean and jungle views on the island.

We started the day leaving our hotel, stopping at small local shops for water and fuel before making our way across Lombok’s coastline. The scenery was unreal — rolling hills, bright blue water, and long stretches of empty jungle roads.

One of the wildest moments of the day was discovering a hidden underground bat cave. After a 1km ride and a short walk through the bush, we climbed down some dodgy steps and were shocked at what we saw — thousands of bats flying overhead and covering the cave walls. Luke went all the way to the cave floor… but Jesse and I stayed on the steps because the ground was crawling with cockroaches (my actual nightmare).

After the cave, we continued to Kuta Lombok, checked into the Novotel, and went exploring. We visited the bamboo bridge (and immediately got swarmed by market sellers), wandered through the GP track area, and returned to the bridge again for a beautiful sunset.

This video shows the real side of travelling Lombok by scooter — the scenic roads, the unexpected wildlife encounters, and the chaotic but fun moments of exploring Kuta.
