This is a compliment to the shoulder impingement video uploaded previously.
If you've got shoulder pain and it isn't due to shoulder impingement, what can you do about it?
This video was actually inspired by a question from a viewer who got shoulder pain while doing bench press and also when pressing one hand against their belly. My beginning assumption is that it may be a problem with anchoring the coracoid process, which is a finger of bone that pokes out from the top of the shoulder blade, near the front of the shoulder joint.
While it isn't guaranteed to help you solve your shoulder pain, it does include the steps I would go through (and have gone through) in order to fix shoulder pain that isn't due to shoulder impingement.
So in this video I go over ribcage mobility and control and using that to anchor the muscles that work between ribcage and shoulder blade.
From there it's about shoulder blade mobility and control with a particular focus on anchoring and activating the pectoralis minor.
Additionally it also looks at forearm rotation and control since one of the other muscles that attaches to the corocoid process takes part in forearm rotation (and forearm control).
And it also looks at iliocostalis and longissimus (though I don't mention these by name) muscles that can be used to anchor the backs of the ribs so that the abs can work against them so that together they can help stabilize the ribcage.
So this video is a bit long, but it does cover a lot of the necessary ground work and basic understanding so that you have a better chance of effectively dealing with your shoulder pain, particularly if the root cause is lack of anchoring for muscles that attach at the corocoid process.
