A surprising audiophile hi-fi tweak: using a washing machine underlay as a high-end vibration absorbing isolation platform for your audio high fidelity equipment: amplifiers, CD players, turntables, DAC's etc. I show how a simple, affordable tweak can change and improve the sound quality and reduce unwanted vibrations. Perfect for speakers, turntables and other delicate audio hi-fi gear.
🛠️ Materials Used:

This is a simple, cool looking and cheap rubber platform
I bought it in the mall, paid it $12
This is a rubber washing machine underlay, versatile in use, sound and vibration absorbing, slip resistant
What does it SOUND like? WARMER sound, less details, less air, softer sound, more JUICY BASS, less transients etc
If the sound of your high end audio system is too SHARP, BRIGHT or DRY - yes
If the sound of your hi-fi system is WARM - no
This rubber platform is a good solution for the hi-fi enthusiast looking to isolate equipment
I belive you have experimented with isolation cones, spikes, rubber feet, bearings, isolation platforms and bases or one of the many viscoelastic feet. Say, device X offers a warmer flavor, device Y results in a faster, more detailed or brighter sound
BTW, there would be no sound without wibrations. Vibrations are sound and sound is vibrations. Good vibrations are the essence of music, but not all vibrations are beneficial
TURNTABLES: sensitive to vibrations, which raises the noise floor, degrading the sound not to mention stylus jump due to footfall. The turntable’s cartridge and stylus trace minute wave forms, play them back with very sensitive low voltages and convert them into an audio signal. This is how the sound captured in the record grooves is reproduced. But this process is VERY sensitive to movement
CD PLAYERS: vibration affects the laser mechanism and the crystal oscillators introducing severe sound-degrading jitter
TUBE EQUIPMENT: vibration rattles the microphonic electrodes, especially the grids
Vibrations fall into THREE categories:
STRUCTURAL
AIRBORNE
SELF GENERATED
STRUCTURE - BORNE vibrations enter the component via its factory made feet through the platform upon which it rests
AIRBORNE vibrations are the results of air currents generated by speakers, which vibrate the chassis of the component
SELF-GENERATED: internal vibrations are caused by the equipment itself
Vibration control is important for optimizing audiophile equipment and achieving better sound quality. However, there is no PERFECT solution to completely isolate audio components, but the goal is to try to isolate them in the most efficient way
