This loose, expressive landscape was an experiment that worked so well - I keep coming back to this technique of painting reflections as it is so simple and quick, and such great fun too.
The scene was inspired by my favourite part of the train journey from Sydney back to the Central Coast, when the train is snaking along the creek, overlooking the lush hills of Brisbane Water National Park near Wondabyne.
I placed the paper flat on the desk (not the slight angle I usually paint at), I picked up a large flat brush that I bought but never found a use for, and I painted wet on dry to make interesting, playful brush marks on the textured surface of cold press paper.
Let's see how this calm, balanced scene came to life.
