In Part 6 of this series, I continue building within the Victorian commonplace book by introducing interactive elements using original antique ephemera.
An antique piano manufacturer’s advertising card becomes a flip-up page. The fragile piece is carefully reinforced to ensure durability, and its damaged corner is thoughtfully embellished rather than concealed, allowing wear to remain part of the story.
On another page, I transform a Victorian embossed scrap into a corner tuck spot, creating a place to hold a journaling card made from an old air mail envelope and a photograph of a World War I soldier. These pieces are combined in a way that allows them to be handled, removed, and returned without strain.
In this episode, you’ll see:
Reinforcing fragile antique ephemera
Creating a flip-up from an advertising card
Using damaged areas as design features
Making a corner tuck spot from an embossed scrap
Constructing a journaling card from historic materials
This section of the book emphasizes movement and interaction, encouraging the pages to be lifted, uncovered, and explored.
