An often asked and misunderstood question is that of shocking or confusing a muscle in order tomato more progress in the gym.
The logic behind this goes something like that: my muscles got used to the workout henceforth I must shock them into new growth.
Sounds reasonable but makes zero sense.
Muscles do not have any feelings nor do they memorize anything. Therefore they can't be shocked or surprised.
So why did my workout stop working?
The answer is: because of you, the human factor! What does that mean? In not so many words, we are all complacent. If we do certain things often enough , we get sloppy.
Think hospitals and infections, everyone knows how to prevent infections yet mistakes are made.Therefore we need a checklist to make sure we maximize each rep.1. lock everything down.2. make sure only one end of the muscle is moving3. start the movement with the muscle you are wanting to train.
So when should you switch out the workout?
A you mastered it.
B. You are not making progress because the exercises aren't for you. Example: I have long arms so the flat bench will not produce any gains for me.
Simply changing to change will not fix the underlying problem which is you ( the human factor) not paying attention to execution.
You will simply find a new set of exercises to do wrong:)
