Too many tour operators are guessing when their customers actually book. We see it all the time—operators throwing marketing content at the wall and hoping something sticks, without understanding the fundamental difference between how people book day tours versus multi-day adventures.

The reality? Multi-day tour bookings follow a completely different timeline than anything else in tourism. We're talking about a six to 18-month window from first interest to actual deposit. Someone might see your Instagram post in January but not book until June or July. Or even next June or July.

This extended timeline changes everything about how you should approach marketing. While day tour operators can rely on last-minute bookings and impulse decisions, multi-day operators need to think strategically about nurturing prospects through a much longer journey.

The data reveals something fascinating though. The multi-day market actually splits into two distinct booking patterns. You've got traditional planners who book four to six months out, but there's also a growing segment of last-minute bookers making significant investments just 10 to 30 days out.

Most operators only market to one of these segments, leaving money on the table.

In this week’s video, we break down Google's five stages of travel and how they align with the multi-day booking process. From that initial dreaming phase that starts 12-18 months out, through active planning where they're comparing operators, to that final booking phase where they're ready to commit but might have last-minute hesitations.
