Welcome to Day 39 of backpacking overland from the UK to Australia and in this episode we leave Albania and attempt to cross into North Macedonia overland.
Starting in Korce, we travel to Pogradec, then take a taxi to the border. What we didn’t expect was what happened next, whilst walking through no man’s land, a local offers us a lift across the mountains all the way to Lake Ohrid.
After a relaxed 50-minute drive through the mountains, we arrive in Ohrid and quickly realise it might be our favourite place so far. From the cafes on the port to stunning lake views and the old town, this stop completely surprised us.
This journey is part of our UK to Australia overland challenge, no flights, just trains, buses, ferries…
