THE CZECH PIRC DEFENSE IS UNSTOPPABLE.    • THE CZECH PIRC DEFENSE IS UNSTOPPABLE.  

The Czech Pirc is one of my personal favorites. Below are some reasons I am such a big fan of not only the Pirc Defense, but the Czech Variation in particular:

1. THE CZECH PIRC DEFENSE IS EASY TO REACH!

There are many chess openings (Ponziani Opening, Scotch Gambit, Nimzo-Indian Defense, Bogo-Indian Defense, Ruy Lopez, Evan's Gambit, etc) that are strong but require the opponent to do specific moves multiple times. However, with the Czech Pirc, the second we see e4, we know we can reach our d6/Nf6/c6 setup. PLUS against nearly anything we can get this setup anyways as both black OR white! This can lead to Czech Pirc Defense ideas, as well as Black Lion Defense/White Lion Attack ideas as well. We are starting out by doing our own thing, and it's very hard for our opponent to stop it.

2. THE CZECH PIRC DEFENSE IS DIGESAIBLE:

By this, I mean that the chess opening ideas, chess opening moves, chess opening strategy, and chess opening principles are straightforward and easy to learn. I would say the opposite of this is something like the Sicilian Najdorf, where things are so crazy many people need to study for years to really learn everything that is going on.

3. THE CZECH PIRC DEFENSE WORKS!

Titled players including GMs have lost to the Czech Pirc Defense, with other GMs having success with it! On this channel so far we have included Varuzhan Akobian, Michael Adams, Vladimir Kramnik, and Tigran Petrosian! All four of these GM level players have had incredible careers, with the Czech Pirc being a big help to them in that. And, if GMs can beat GMs with the Czech Pirc Defense, I think the rest of us can pick up the opening and play with it too.

4. THE CZECH PIRC DEFENSE IS RARE!

This is not a mainstream opening. Many don't know about it and even if they do, what e4 chess opening player has studied well for the Czech Pirc Defense? Not many. This is part of the reason why I am such a big fan of the Hippopotamus Defense! The chess opening is so rare and many become uncomfortable against it because they don't know the chess opening theory. Have you studied hard for stuff like the (regular) Pirc Defense, Scandinavian Defense, Caro-Kann Defense, French Defense, Sicilian Defense, or Petrov's Defense? Well, none of that matters the second we play something like the Hippopotamus Defense or Czech Pirc Defense.
