In this episode of EDI Wednesday©, we are joined by Frances Akinde for a timely and important conversation on the intersectionality of race and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
Frances explores how race and SEND are often treated as separate considerations within education and wider systems, despite the lived experiences of many children and young people sitting at this intersection. Through reflection on practice and structural realities, this discussion highlights how racialised assumptions, institutional blind spots, and fragmented approaches can deepen inequality for racially minoritised learners with SEND.
Facilitated by Professor Paul Miller, CEO and Principal of the Institute for Equity, University Centre, this episode invites educators, leaders, policymakers, and EDI practitioners to think more critically about inclusive practice, accountability, and the need for intersectional approaches to equity.
