The introduction in recent years of “Blisks” (Bladed Disks) and “IBR’s” (Integral Bladed Rotors) into modern turbofan engine designs in the pursuit of weight and fuel savings, now presents new challenges as these critical parts enter service conditions in volume. The exotic materials and complex aerofoil geometries are at the boundaries of capability in the inspection, welding and milling processes required to meet the rigorous quality, cost, reliability and safety specifications for repair operations.
At TTL we have been highly successful in utilising our proprietary software based Adaptive Machining methods to compensate for part-to-part variation in single blade applications and have now extended this capability to viable automated workflows for multi-blade parts to the MRO sector, presented in this short video.
