How to choose your profession that is passion or purpose led

To establish that Passion and / or Purpose should drive Profession and not the other way around, we speak with Shuchi Bhattacharya and Rahul Mehta – two ex-hoteliers.

Shuchi and Rahul both share their real story here. Both of them left their decade long profession to chase their Passion and Purpose respectively. This video is intended to help those who have got a voluntary or forced break from their hotel jobs. This should be able to inspire you to think beyond hotels, find your passion and embed that in your profession.

Shuchi quit hotels in 2017 after working with luxury hotel brands for 11 years, she had risen to become an Assistant Director of Sales. She chose her passion and today she is a very successful professional make-up artist with an unending list of happy customers.

Rahul quit hotels in the beginning of 2021 after he rose through the ranks and became a Director of Sales & Marketing of an international hotel brand. Rahul chose his Purpose to empower the world with meaningful education which is now his profession. He is working with Ahmedabad University now.

Does this mean that their earlier profession in the hotel industry as successful sales experts not their passion or purpose. Was it only a means to a steady income? Lets find out

You may have been stuck with your profession due to different reasons. But in case there comes a day when you realize that there is passion or propose missing in your job, and this is not going to make you happy long term- follow these steps:
• Take a break or just a small pause to reflect
• Jot down your passion or purpose statement and set objectives for your life - think what will make you happy. Think deep.
• Acquire the necessary skill if it is different from what you know.
• If you already have the skills, give it direction, make it relevant to what you wish to do.
• You CAN make a difference to your life and It’s never too late.
We also learnt that hoteliers are very versatile, dynamic and with an empathetic personality that are sought after qualities for various professions.
The outside world is constantly seeking these qualities and there are great career options.
