While there are core departments in the hotel - Front Office, House keeping, Food & Beverage service, Food Production or culinary. These departments needs operational experience starting with a hotel management course. However there are some other departments in the hotel too where talent comes in from other areas - Engineering, Information Technology, Sales & Marketing, Finance, Safety & Security, Food safety and hygiene, Human Resources. For these departments, most entrants come with a qualification suited to these professions. But changeover is still possible. There are many examples of operational departmental people moving to sales & marketing, human resource, finance, Information technology etc.
