Departure from an abandoned place: Maarn Goederen - Utrecht - Alkmaar VIRM 3056 17/8/2022

Today we depart from an abandoned goods yard: Maarn Goods. Until 1933 this was a very extensive yard with turntables, maintenance sheds and sidings. After the marshalling yard in Amersfoort was put into use, part of the tracks in Maarn remained in use for sand extraction. Many railway embankments have been constructed with sand that comes from here. Today, the A12 motorway runs straight through the old railway site and the excavation is transformed into a nature reserve. Here you can still find the remains of two turntables.
Normally this train runs from Nijmegen, but due to construction work at Ede-Wageningen, we depart here.
Between Wormerveer and Krommenie you can still see the classic Citroën Mehari, which seems to not have moved for months. Do you know why? Enjoy watching!

We vertrekken vandaag vanaf een verlaten goederenemplacement: Maarn Goederen. Tot 1933 was dit een zeer uitgebreid emplacement met draaischijven, onderhoudsloodsen en rangeersporen. Nadat het rangeerterrein in Amersfoort in gebruik was genomen bleef een deel van de sporen in Maarn in gebruik voor zandwinning. Veel spoordijken zijn aangelegd met zand dat hier vandaan komt. Tegenwoordig loopt de snelweg A12 dwars door het oude spoorterrein en is de afgraving een natuurgebied. Hier vind je nu nog steeds de restanten van twee draaischijven.
Normaal rijdt deze trein vanaf Nijmegen, maar vanwege werkzaamheden bij Ede-Wageningen, vertrekken we hier.
Tussen Wormerveer en Krommenie zien jullie nog steeds de klassieke Citroën Mehari staan, die is al maanden niet van zijn plek geweest lijkt wel. Weten jullie waarom? Veel kijkplezier!
