Former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being convicted on multiple charges of abuse of power and money laundering linked to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal.
The high court ruled Najib guilty on four counts of abuse of power and 21 counts of money laundering, all to be served concurrently. Najib, 72, has been in prison since August 2022 following a previous conviction in another 1MDB-related case. He has denied any wrongdoing.
The 1MDB case involves the alleged illegal transfer of about 2.2 billion ringgit ($539 million) from the state fund during Najib’s tenure as prime minister.
