Yesterday, May 7th, 2022, I set out to explore the former Baltimore & Ohio Railroad (B&O)'s St Louis Line across southern Indiana, now the rather famous CSX Indiana Sub. As the B&O color position light (CPL) signals start falling fast, I made it a mission to document as many as I could. I was lucky to get a Saturday westbound trip, as a work train, W035, was called to run as far west as Medora, as it'd be used to tear out the siding there in the next week. Medora Siding is the last remaining siding in place between Washington and Seymour, a distance of 83 miles. The Indiana Sub begins in Washington, after changing names from the Illinois Sub (which is even more seldom used, half of it is out of service and has no CPLs left). It's used by job L364 (former J700) until just east of town to serve two customers. Past that, it's out of service all the way until Mitchell, IN. I documented some CPLs on this out of service part which is what you see in the first 5 minutes of this video. Mitchell to Seymour is regularly only used by local job L422 (former J780), however on this day it'd be used by W035 as far as Medora. Then, from the LIRC connection at Seymour, it actually becomes a fairly active mainline with a few daily road trains all the way to Cincinnati. However, CSX is working on removing the CPLs from that section. It was great to get to see a train on a line I've always wanted to see one on, and especially on a seldom-used section of it. I was very happy to document a lot of remaining CPLs as well. Enjoy!

1:02 The "ghost signal" at Willow Valley. It almost always shows an approach aspect for seemingly no reason, and sometimes also briefly switches to stop. This section of the line hasn't seen a train in nearly 2 years, and probably won't see another one anytime soon.

3:35 A new Siemens vader displays a clear signal for the rare Saturday westbound over the diamond with LIRC in Seymour.

3:58 LIRC's new LED colorlight signals at Seymour Connection (these didn't replace anything)
4:10 A PRR-installed US&S R-2 from the LIRC side and a B&O-installed CPL from the CSX side both lay on their sides awaiting (probably?) eventual scrap.

4:31 Looking north
4:43 CSX W035 comes into Seymour and passes over the interlocking.

11:08 W035 passes the CPLs at Shields, with an approach aspect.
13:23 W035 creeps by the CPLs at WE Brownstown, after getting talked by the stop signal. Many CPLs on this lightly-used section of the line don't work properly, especially since most of them have had the sidings they govern torn up, like here. Thus, trains must get "talked by" each red signal, and proceed through them at restricted speed until they pass another favorable signal.
15:33 The EB CPL also curiously reverted to approach. Nothing else would run east through here for at least an entire day.
16:24 EE Medora
16:36 W035 comes into Medora and takes the siding for the last time. The conductor is likely one of the last to throw the switch into the siding.
22:10 The crossing circuit for the siding track here also shows how long it's been since it saw good use.
24:45 CSX 8096 cuts off from the rest of the train and heads to the west end of Medora Siding.
25:56 Crew of W035 getting talked by stop signals at both ends of Medora Siding by the CSX LB dispatcher.
28:23 On the move from WE Medora, and running back towards the east end of the siding long hood forward.
29:51 Coming into Medora, pulling past the siding switch, throwing the switch one last time and heading into the siding to tie down for the day.
33:10 Extra Clip: I also stopped at C.P. Dale in Indianapolis, which is a diamond between the CSX Louisville Secondary Sub (becomes the LIRC a couple miles south) and the CSX Indianapolis Belt Sub. The Louisville Secondary is protected by a pair of Pennsylvania Railroad CPLs, which look noticeably different.
