Age Stronger! Making Deadlift Gains at 65 years old! This Senior's Deadlift Program to age stronger! Well, maybe “Secret” is a little hyperbolic, but this is my new training approach to reach that 450 pound very soon.
And then, onward to 500? Perhaps.
When I was actively competing in power lifting I used to train using the 3X3 progressive overload approach (3 sets of 3 reps). Plus 1 set by 6 reps at about 90% of the 3 working sets. 365 pounds in this case… It worked well then so, why not now?
Particularly now that I’m 65 and want to minimize the “heavy reps”.
This 3X3 approach produces a very similar volume to 3X5. Same approach as the conventional 3X5 in that I’ll go up 5 pounds progressively.
So, my next deadlift session will be: 3X3 at 410 and. 1X6 at 370….
I’m going to attempt that 450 pound deadlift in the next 2 weeks so, stayed tuned!
