Poughkeepsie Railroad Bridge in 1991

THIS IS NOT MY VIDEO!!! This is video from a VHS tape " Walk On The Hudson " by Dick Crenson of Rover Video in 1991. This video shows what the walkway looked like before the rails, ties, railings, etc, were removed from Highland to land over Dutchess County in 2007, starting the project of laying concrete slabs down for the current walkway. The rails, ties, railings over the Dutchess County side were removed by Conrail in 1983 after many complaints of falling debris were reported. Unfortunately, I was never able to see a train on this spectacular bridge, which saw its last train May 8, 1974 due to a fire. The last train was eastbound NE-79 powered by 5 Erie Lackawanna units. NYSDOT and Penn Central were to fix this bridge, but this never materialized. Conrail took ownership of this bridge 4-1-76, and did their best to rid themselves of it. We all should be thankful that Conrail did not accept bids for the demolishing of this bridge and it ended up in the hands of William Sepe, who deserves major credit for this project. Notice the northbound Amtrak F-unit on the Hudson Line and the AC Dutton Lumber Yard in Poughkeepsie , which Conrail serviced almost daily.
