This is the premiere of Dana Bagshaw's Yellow Ribbons. Moving the play to a live-streamed Zoom webinar has been quite a challenge, but the cast and crew have been having a lot of fun getting to know real local and national historical characters and they hope you will too.
The year is 1896, a presidential election year. One of the most contested issues is women's suffrage, and local Santa Cruz men and women respond with vigor. You are invited to view two days in their lives — the first scene is set in Miss Kate Handley's hat shop, on the corner of Pacific Avenue and Locust Street. The second at the YMCA where suffragist Anna Shaw is the renowned guest speaker. Both scenes are filled with conflicts, laughter, and music of the period.
