Thurman Munson was drafted by the Yankees in 1968, and quickly became a team and fan favorite. Along with Carlton Fisk and Johnny Bench, he was one of the best catchers in the league. After winning MVP, he became the team captain and would help lead the Yankees to the World Series in 1977 and 1978. But late into 1979, tragedy struck when Munson would tragically pass away in a plane crash. Devastating for everyone involved.
