Palli Chutney (also known as Peanut Chutney) is a popular South Indian condiment, often served with idli, dosa, or vada. Here's a simple and traditional method to prepare it.
🌰 Palli Chutney Recipe (Peanut Chutney)
🧂 Ingredients:
Raw peanuts (palli) – ½ cup
Green chilies – 2 to 4 (adjust to spice preference)
Red Chilies - 5
Tamarind – small piece (or ½ tsp tamarind paste)
Salt – to taste
Water – as needed
🌿 For Tempering (optional but recommended):
Oil – 1 tsp
Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
Cumin seeds – ½ tsp
Urad dal – ½ tsp
Dry red chili – 1
Hing - pinch
🔪 Preparation Steps:
1. Roasting Peanuts:
Dry roast peanuts in a pan on medium flame until they turn golden and the skin starts to peel.
Let them cool, then rub between your palms to remove the skin (optional – can also use with skin for a rustic flavor).
2. Grinding:
In a mixer jar, add:
Roasted peanuts
Red and Green chilies
Tamarind
Salt
A little water
Grind to a smooth or slightly coarse paste, depending on your preference. Add more water to adjust consistency.
3. Tempering (Tadka):
Heat 1 tsp oil in a small pan.
Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
Add cumin seeds, urad dal, dry red chili, and green chillies
Fry until dal turns golden.
Pour this tempering over the ground chutney.
🍽️ Serving Suggestion:
