Saimin is Hawaii's ultimate comfort food. Though it is related to ramen and other Asian noodle soups, Saimin is a uniquely local Hawaii dish. All of the different cultures of Hawaii contribute to the dish including:
Chinese char siu (bbq pork)
Japanese kamaboko (fish cake)
Won Bok (Napa Cabbage) - the same vegetable in classic kim chee
And of course Spam!
With every culture in the islands adding something unique to the dish, it is the very heart and soul of the islands. It is a little microcom of Hawaii in a bowl.
