I've got some beautiful ti leaf growing in my yard, so I want to make some lau lau. Ti leaf is a sacred plant to native Hawaiians. Hawaiian Kahu use ti leaf and holy water for blessings. But it is also used to make lau lau. Normally cooked in a big underground oven, called an imu, I'll show you how to make lau lau on the stove instead.
Here are your ingredients:
6 Ti Leaves
A dozen Luau Leaves (Taro Leaves)
3/4 lbs. Pork Belly
1 Tbsp. Hawaiian Salt
1 Tbsp. Liquid Smoke
1/2 Okinawan Sweet Potato
1 pc. Salted Butterfish (Cod)
To go with the lau lau, I'm going to make lomi salmon. But normally store bought lomi salmon has such little salmon in it. It's like lomi tomato instead. So I'm going to make it my own way. I'm going to make the lomi salmon more like how we make poke instead, with big luscious cubes of fish Basically poke with lomi salmon ingredients.
Here's what you'll need:
1 Salmon Filet
1 Maui Onion
2 Large Tomatoes
A dozen stalks of Green Onion (Scallion)
2 Tbsp. Hawaiian Salt
These are the true tastes of of Hawaii.
