We hear it all the time - avoid insulin spikes, avoid glucose spikes to lose weight, insulin is bad, glucose spikes are bad and fattening.
Except the science really does not support this at ALL!
There is no evidence whatsoever that glucose and insulin spikes cause obesity or prevent weight loss.
So what DOES cause obesity?
It is leptin resistance and events in the gut.
Low carb diets don't work because they reduce insulin spikes. They work because they reverse leptin resistance.
And high carb, very low fat diets work to reverse obesity because they ALSO reverse leptin resistance.
The insulin and glucose spikes don't make the slightest bit of difference to prevent or stop weight loss. That's because insulin and glucose spikes DON'T cause obesity OR poor health.
It is leptin resistance that causes obesity and as long as you reverse that with your diet - insulin and glucose spikes don't matter a jot.
