Welcome to our series on Reinforced Concrete Design to Eurocode 2.
In this lecture, Topic 2: Reinforced Concrete Section, Part 3, we explore how design charts are used to determine the steel reinforcement required for singly-reinforced concrete sections.
📌 In this lecture, we:
✅ Explain the basis of dimensionless design charts for singly-reinforced sections
✅ Demonstrate the ICE and IStructE design manual chart styles
✅ Show how to use charts to find x/d and z/d ratios, lever arm, and area of steel
✅ Work through a practical design example for a concrete beam with 15% moment redistribution
✅ Compare results obtained using ICE and IStructE charts and discuss minor differences
👷♀️ Delivered by Dr Margi Vilnay – Senior Lecturer in Structural Engineering, Chartered Engineer, and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
