In today’s video we talk about two of the most important elements in writing a manuscript. Those are your book opening, “the hook” for the reader. This element grabs the reader’s attention and gives them the curiosity to continue reading. Your first 15 to 20 pages must be action oriented and interesting. It is critical that you do not add needless and boring “world building” information here. You must write a gripping and interesting first few pages. We can add some details but we have to be careful not to go too far.
The next very important element is your book’s pacing. This is the flow or tempo of the story through your writing style. The story will have several exciting spikes in tempo with critical events. We must avoid a huge dip below what we establish as the general pace of the book. Big dips in pace will cause the reader to lose interest and stop reading the book. Every spike in action can’t be spectacular but they also must maintain the book’s general pace.
