Tibialis Posterior is a deep, posterior low leg muscles that plantar flexes (points the foot) and inverts (lifts up the inner arch) the foot. Trigger points (hyperirritable spot in a taut band of skeletal muscle, that is painful when compressed) found in the tibialis posterior muscle refer pain to the heel and mimic plantar fasciitis like pain.
When treating trigger points, compress very gently and if you feel pain then wait and hold the compression for 10-12 seconds. If the pain is high, say 7+ out of 10, then back off or come off completely.
Let me know if this helps with your heel pain.
