With the rise in diversity that Canada boasts and a new generation that’s more vocal, young people are met with situations where they don’t know what’s appropriate to say. As a university student and woman of colour, Uswah will share stories of her ignorant encounters and her solutions to foster a healthy social environment for people of colour.
Uswah Ahsan is a third-year Political Science and Communications student at the University of Ottawa with a knack for telling stories in a humorous and light-hearted manner. She is a sister to two, a self-acclaimed personal chef to some and a friend to many. As a young woman of color, Uswah has been met with some interesting questions about her identity that have caused her to reshape her view of university social life. She’s here to suggest ways for her peers to address women of color in a manner that won’t result in offended looks or heated arguments. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
