Apologies for the jerkiness of the first minute or so, it calms down a lot once I get past the start!
Recorded using a head-mounted GoPro Hero Black 7 in Linear FOV with a DigiPower Re-fuel extended battery pack attached. Stabilization was provided in real time by the GoPro's own "HyperSmooth" EIS. I'm definitely interested in trying the newer GoPros with HyperSmooth 6 and especially with real-time horizon lock, but until there's a way to keep it powered for about three hours with GPS and stabilization on (and until I have the money!), the upgrade will have to wait... Maybe by this time next year? :D
Thanks to a firmware upgrade on my watch breaking the excellent GhostRacer app a week before the run, I wasn't able to use a chest strap for my heart rate this time, so take the HR values with a pinch of salt - even on 5k jogs, the watch readings will occasionally jump about 20 bpm and stay high for five or ten minutes before dropping back to normal, an issue I don't see with the chest strap. Also the reason I didn't have to call a doctor when my HR hit 188 post-run or had to worry about apparently spending two thirds of the run in HR zone 5 (maximum exertion) and one third of it in zone 4 (anaerobic respiration). For people unfamiliar with HR zones, that would make me something of a medical miracle if those zones and readings were correct! I will admit to feeling a bit wobbly after crossing the line though, so maybe that reading wasn't as far off as I'd thought...
The conditions were great - about 5°C in the event village before the start, rising to about 10°C by race end, winds light enough that I didn't notice them until after the run, and sunshine all the way. The sun brought the crowds out a bit too! Pretty sure the cooler weather was a factor in my eventual finish time, which I'm happy to report was around ten minutes faster than last year.
First time that the route for the Great Eastern has included the cathedral grounds, so you get a glimpse of the cathedral itself at about 2hr 7 minutes, almost 21km in. Wasn't really focusing on getting the shot in though, as it later turned out that my fastest mile was from 12 to 13, even (surprisingly) beating the last 0.1 or 0.2 miles that included my "sprint" finish! :D
