This instructional video is based on the science of sports massage. It offers an example of Training Sports Massage for the shoulder and shoulder girdle, with a client in the supine position.
In this video we emphasize the importance of taking a multi-dimensional approach in working with the shoulder and the shoulder girdle, when massage therapist works on both anterior and posterior surfaces of the body simultaneously.
As a part of this approach, there is a very important skill to develop- two hands working independently.
In order to effectively address a shoulder joint, it helps to keep in mind the tug-of-war between the Anterior and the Posterior group of the skeletal muscles of the shoulder and the shoulder girdle, where the Rotator Cuffs are "loosing" to the Pecs muscles, as an example. In turn, Trapezius and Rhomboids muscles are suffer.
This video offers several specific techniques to address the postural imbalance. Please, take your time in figuring out the best positioning of your own hands, while following techniques from this video. Make sure to gradually increase the pressure, but without eliciting any painful sensation. Also, use your body movements to make your hands work more effectively while more effortless.
