Cheerakottaan
Ingredients
1. Red amaranths without leaf – 4 to 5 cups
2. Green chilli – 2 to 3
3. Salt – to taste
4. Tamarind – gooseberry size
5. Turmeric powder – a big pinch
Masala
6. Coconut – half of 1
7. Red chilli – 5 to 8
8. Shallots / small onion – 5 to 6
Seasoning
9. Oil – 1 tbsp
10. Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
11. Red chilli – 2 to 3
12. Curry leaves – 2 twigs
Preparation
1. Boil items 1 to 5 well adding water.
2. Cook the coconut half as such on gas (ember in fire wood stove) till it smells of fried coconut, remove from the shell & make pieces, grind with chilli & shallots nicely, set aside.
3. Boil the cooked Amaranth with tamarind water, add the masala & boil adding water.
4. Season with the ingredients & set aside.
