Join me for a virtual trail run or virtual hike from Gem Lake to MacGregor Falls through forested hills, flowered meadows, and along Black Canyon Creek in Rocky Mountain National Park near Estes Park, Colorado.
Beginning in Rocky Mountain National Park at Gem Lake, (8,859 feet; 2,700 m altitude) we drop quickly through a pine forest with views across the park to the 14,259 ft (4,347 m) Longs Peak. A friendly deer gets a surprise as we come suddenly around a corner during his breakfast. Two miles along finds us running through a beautiful meadow full of lovely wildflowers and five male elk grazing nearby. Finally, we follow a streamside trail along Black Canyon Creek that was damaged during some massive flooding in 2013 to arrive at MacGreggor Falls!
