“The Politics of Orisha Worship,” speech @ the 2023 United Nations Permanent Forum

Moffett-Bateau was invited to speak on a panel focusing on African Traditional Religions in the Diaspora and the UN Declaration on the Rights of People of African Descent.

Dr. Moffett-Bateau has been an Orisha devotee for almost fifteen years, and she was initiated more than ten years ago. They are an Olosha and Priest of Shango. Her godparents are Iya Asabi Agonogolou and Baba Willie Ilari Oba Ramos. While this is a private part of Dr. MB’s life, they occasionally make exceptions depending on the public speaking request.
