Most such patients, men, women, boys, girls, and children, can be managed on the basis of non-invasive evaluation. But there are some patients who do not respond well to treatment or who have other concomitant problems which might necessitate invasive evaluation to precisely determine what's happening at the level of the bladder. And the best way to do that is by a video-eurodynamic study. What do we do in a video neurodynamics? The video part, as the word suggests, is a visualization of what's happening in the bladder and the outlet when the bladder is holding urine and when we are passing urine. While the neurodynamics is essentially a measurement of bladder pressures and bladder sensations to try and understand how the bladder stores and how the outlet behaves when we pass urine. Use of video neurodynamics can be crucial in the management of neurogenic bladder. It can be exceedingly important in patients who have Parkinson's disease and are planning prostate surgery. Some men with Parkinson's disease might have Parkinson-like conditions, which do not respond at all to surgical procedures for the prostate, and differentiating these two conditions requires use of video because the plain or standard neurodynamics fails to differentiate the two conditions. In patients with high-risk neurogenic bladder, video neurodynamics can be crucial in ensuring that the bladder is safe for the kidneys. and preventing any loss of kidney function, which can happen unfortunately in some of these children or adults if the bladder is not managed correctly.
