»In its scale and thoroughness, the project is truly without precedent. The research findings are likely to inspire many others, and personally I don’t know if Wagner sung merely beautifully and with a big voice can still be convincing after hearing it this way,« was the verdict on Swiss Radio and Television (SRF) following the Lucerne performance of Wagner’s "Das Rheingold" in historical practice. A complete success for The Wagner Cycles, which — together with the Dresdner Festspielorchester and Concerto Köln under the direction of Kent Nagano — are carrying an entirely new (old) Wagner sound from Dresden out into the world. A project of the Richard-Wagner-Akademie of the Dresdner Musikfestspiele.
This recording captures the concert performance of "Das Rheingold" on June 14, 2023, at Dresden’s Kulturpalast with the Dresdner Festspielorchester and Concerto Köln under the baton of Kent Nagano.
