Hello neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer and today we're taking a look and installing the Motor Upgrade Kit for electric powered steps for your RV. Now this is gonna be today on a 2002 Georgie Boy Cruise Air, but this is a pretty common part that's on a lot of different RVs, so even if yours isn't this model in particular, you might wanna watch because this is gonna be very similar to many other RVs out there. Sometimes all it takes is one thing to ruin a trip. And something as simple as your steps operating on your RV can be that. You know, if you have kids or pets or maybe you just struggle to be able to pull yourself up on an RV because your steps aren't actuating properly or, and they're not actuating safely, this is a great way to get that replaced by getting the motor upgrade kit. (door latch clicks) And that way when you open that door, the steps will be right there, and it's gonna make it nice and easy to get in and then when you close the door, they'll close back up.
(door bangs) (RV steps hum) The Kwikee Motor Upgrade Kit for RV Steps is going to be replacing our old motor that we have on here that just wasn't working properly. And that way we can get that smooth motion and our steps to be able to be usable. And Kwikee is made by Lippert. Lippert does a lot of the build outs of smaller parts on RVs, steps included. So these are kind of the standard for most RVs out there.
There's a good chance on your RV if you look underneath, it's gonna say Kwikee or Lippert somewhere, and that's where this comes into play. Whether you have an older motor and you want to upgrade it with a little bit more power, this is a great option. Or if you have a motor that's just not working, this is also a great option because it comes not only with the motor and gear box, but also the main control unit. So if it's an electrical issue of why your steps aren't going out, this kit will take care of that. Now the steps will go up and down as you open and close the door, and that's accomplished by this magnetic sensor on the door.
There's a sensor that's on the other side, so as we close this, it'll make a contact (door bangs) and then allow that motor to draw it back in. So the kit does come with two different styles of that. So if you need to replace your sensors or if you're adding this into your RV, you'll have that, as well as a pigtail that's going to allow you to run this up to control power and that way you'll have a fully working step. All the hardware's there included. So it really makes it easy if you're just replacing it because it's pretty well plug and play.
But even if you're putting this in as a brand new stand-alone system, it's a pretty easy way to get your steps to work. (door latch clicks) (RV steps hum) Now something else that's really nice about this is if you're worried about these pinch points for whatever reason, you know, kids playing on the steps and the door happens to close, I'm gonna be risky and- (door bangs) put my foot here. Now as it wants to close, just a little bit of pressure is enough for that to stop so that way you're not pinching anything in the process. And the same goes for when you open it up. If it hits an obstacle, it is going to just slightly press but then stop. There's not enough tension there to really cause any damage to anything, which is a nice little safety feature. (door bangs) (RV steps hum) Now some RVs will also have a light pre-installed that's gonna illuminate the steps when they're open. And there's also that wiring included here. So if you want to tap into that to get those to illuminate, you have that potential as well. This is my second time doing this install. I did one previously, and that was initially just supposed to be a motor replacement, but as we started replacing things, it still didn't work and it ended up being the control unit. So the cool thing about this kit is, it's gonna have both of those as well as all the extra hardware and literally everything you need to be able to get this to work. There's no splicing required, it's just a few bolts. And overall this is a super easy installation. So if your stairs are struggling, don't deal with that, don't have to fight with that. And a lot of times as those are
