We take our usual on the cheap approach to diagnosing and replacing a tired engine mount on our budget MX-5 project car. Engine mounts do exactly what the name suggests - they mount the engine to the body, subframe or chassis rails of a car. Usually made of rubber bonded to metal, they can fail over time - compressing, degrading or just completely falling to bits - leading to poor engine location and it trying to join you in the cabin every time you accelerate or change gear.
It's a fairly easy thing to fix with basic hand tools. And the engine now stays put whatever's going on...
