Quickshotz | Landscape Photography Inspirations No.3

Well, here we go, the 3rd in my series of featuring inspirational photography from folks outside of the YouTube sphere. This month we've got more woodland, street, and some wildlife/landscape.

MARIANTHI LAINAS

Having spent most of my life living a stone’s throw from the coast, it is the littoral landscape that inspires me photographically and which I feel compelled to explore visually. I feel deeply rooted in my own local landscape, walking the expansive sands of the Dee Estuary on a daily basis, constantly seeking new ways of representing its transient beauty.

'Birds of Passage'

A series made between 2014 and 2018 which culminated in the production of a handcrafted book - my small homage to the thousands of migratory birds that visit the mud flats and sandbanks close to my home, between September and February each year.
Travelling from their summer breeding grounds in Northern Scotland, Scandinavia, Iceland and Greenland, they journey vast distances to overwinter in warmer climes. Arriving slowly at first, and then in huge numbers, the air is often filled with clouds of knot, dunlin, oystercatchers, sanderling and redshank. A blizzard of birds, their lines of flight connecting me to northern lands. Uncountable numbers, perhaps ten thousand pairs of wings, the stories of their travels caught in their feathers. All too soon they depart, continuing on their migratory paths, leaving a few remaining traces in the sand to be washed away by the next high tide. The beach seems lonelier without them.

DAVE FIELDHOUSE

My interest in street photography was borne out of the frustration caused by trying to shoot landscapes in the summer. The anti social sunrise and sunset times combined with harsh light meant I was shooting very little from late May through till September, so I decided to try a different genre, using the gear i already had.
Working in and around Birmingham city centre meant I could walk between meetings with the camera in hand and see what I could find. I instantly loved it. The harsh light wasn’t an issue, and rain was even better for those reflections on wet, hard floors. I could also go a bit crazy with the processing.
The trouble was, everyone seemed to be on their phones, which made them detached from the scene. I made a purposeful effort to avoid taking photos of people using them, but this became almost impossible (especially in London). This project came about as a personal challenge to create something interesting from someone on their device. It’s no more clever than that

I'm a 51 year old Graphic Designer and Photographer from Nottingham. My passion has always been photography, from taking images at punk shows in my teens through to my more recent work in the UK's woodlands. I'm at my happiest when I'm out in the landscape, preferably with a camera in hand and the more wild the environment the better.
