In this lecture, the last one in the introduction part, we proceed to develop QFT by using an analogy. Waves in a swimming pool can be created by "spending" energy (dropping a pebble) which would "excite" the depth of water as a "classical field". This oscillation can be understood in terms of Simple Harmonic Oscillator. The remaining task, discussed in this lecture, is to "quantize" this field i.e., to formulate the harmonic oscillator quantum mechanically which leads to interpreting waves as particles. The crucial ingredient is the fact that the energy of the nth excited state of a simple harmonic oscillator can be interpreted as having n particles!
