The final round of the 2004 Irish Tarmac Rally Championship saw a title showdown between Derek McGarrity and Eugene Donnelly. Mere seconds seperated the pair heading into the final stage of the Cork 20 but peculiar and shocking events saw Donnelly crash out of the event. In a gesture of solidarity and sportsmanship, the 2004 Championship was shared between Donnelly and McGarrity.
