Colle del Nivolet, Road SP50, Torino, Piedmont, Italy - by motorcycle

The approximately 2600-metre-high Colle del Nivolet connects the Italian provinces of Piedmont in the south and Valle d'Aosta in the north. However, only the southern ascent in Piedmont has been upgraded and is passable by motor vehicles. Originally, a motorable road was planned only as far as the two reservoirs, but later the pass crossing and a small section of the north side were added, leading up to the upper mountain lake and a managed mountain hut (Rifugio Savoia).

The upper part of the road, which is only open to public traffic for about 4 months a year, starts above the village of Ceresole Reale at the upper end of the reservoir and reaches the top of the pass after about 16 km and the mountain lake and mountain hut about 1 km further on. The road is well-maintained and easy to drive on the whole. There are some narrow hairpin bends that are a little confusing but can be negotiated without problems if care is taken.

The Valle dell'Orco, from which the road leads up over the Colle del Nivolet, is well developed for tourism. On certain days, you can therefore expect increased traffic of cars, motorbikes and sometimes also campers on the pass. The area is also often used by pedestrians and hikers.
