How to be a Great Surgery Intern

This video is a brief detour from our usual topics related to medical/surgical pathophysiology and management. We dive deep into the nuts and bolts behind how to effectively provide clinical care as a surgery intern. It is easy to be overwhelmed when you first start intern year, but you can actually distill the key tasks that need to be done into relatively simple and efficient systems that will help you psychologically feel like you've got things under control and leave you with extra time to do what you actual came to residency for- studying, operating, learning medicine.

We discuss the 2 key jobs you have as a surgery intern, a few helpful tips about how to wrangle pages, an acronym that encompasses your daily tasks (NOSA), the ideal order in which to perform these tasks for optimum efficiency, and go into my thoughts on what ideal clinical documentation (notes) should contain. Finally, for those that want to go above and beyond I point out the most common little things I see missed in clinical care that excellent interns will have a system to keep track of.
