Just an hour bus ride away from Takayama in the Hida mountain range is a little cultural preserve called Shirakawa-go. Here you can find old traditional wooden huts. This place is one of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites.
We spent the morning in Takayama and visited their morning market for some shopping, then headed toward Shirakawa. Then we got off the bus and started exploring. We did lots of shopping, tried delicious street food, sat and enjoyed the beautiful snowscapes, and had lunch at this tiny restaurant looking over the snowy meadow.
Once we were completely frozen and damp from the weather, we headed back to enjoy some dinner and the Onsen at our hotel in Takayama.
