Today’s word of the day is gregarious.

A gregarious person is someone who is sociable and enjoys being around other people.

Gregarious was originally used to describe animals that live in flocks — it comes from the Latin word grex, meaning "herd."

Synonyms for gregarious are social, outgoing, friendly, and affable.

Gregarious is an adjective, and is therefore a describing word.

For example, you could describe your uncle as gregarious.

Uncle Jim is always the life of the party. He is talkative and silly. In fact, Jim is the most gregarious person I know.

People who are good at sales are often gregarious. They tend to be extroverts who enjoy talking to people, and are not shy about selling things.

Gregarious people can be bad at keeping secrets, however. I mean, when you love talking and being around people, there are endless chances to spill the beans.

Now that you know more about gregarious, here is your task. Write a paragraph about someone you know who is gregarious. What do they do that makes them gregarious? Are they talkative? Do they love socializing? Does their penchant for talking ever get on your nerves? Or, are they a joy to be around? Be prepared to share your paragraph with the class. And while you write, please do not be gregarious.
