Patriotic Flag Cake

Perfect for the 4th of July or any patriotic holiday! Your family and friends will be so surprised when they cut into this cake to find an American flag!

Flag Cake Recipe:
You need 2 boxes of white cake mix.
Bake 1 box by the instructions, but add red food coloring to it.
Bake the 2nd box by the instructions but leave 1 layer white and turn the other layer blue by adding blue food coloring.
(A short cut would be to use one box of Red Velvet Cake Mix.)

Cut both red layers in half.
Cut the white layer in half.
Leave the blue layer whole but you need to cut out a 4-inch circle in the middle of the blue layer.
To assemble the cake:
Frost the red layer. (1/2 of layer)
Add the white layer and frost. (1/2 of layer)
Add another red layer and frost. (1/2 of layer)
Now add the blue whole layer (the blue ring)
Cut a 4-inch circle out of the one white half layer.
Cut a 4-inch circle out of the one red half layer.
Put the white circle inside the blue ring and frost.
Now add the red circle on top of the white circle.
Now you can frost the entire cake.
It is so beautiful when you cut a slice and you see the FLAG inside.

Cream Cheese Frosting
1 ½ block of soft cream cheese
1 ½ stick of soft butter
5 ¼ cups of powdered sugar
2 t. vanilla flavoring
Cream together with a mixer.
